How to detect if a child is gluten intolerant?

Celiac disease is a problem that affects a small part of the population, whose origin has a strong genetic component. Children from families with a history of celiac disease are more likely to develop it.

After a family member is diagnosed as celiac, the family should undergo a medical test to find out if they also suffer from celiac disease, as sometimes they do not have any symptoms.

The presence of continuous stomach pains can be an indication of intolerance. In children it may manifest as follows:

  • Stunted growth.

  • Anorexia.

  • Fragile hair.

  • Defects in the enamel of the teeth.

What tests are performed to diagnose Celiac Disease?

A diagnosis of celiac disease is made by means of a blood test, the test consists of looking for antibodies to gluten, in case they present an abnormally high level, it is possible that the doctor orders a biopsy of the intestine.

Children who have to undergo this test will receive, depending on the circumstances, a light sedative or general anesthesia. If the result confirms celiac disease, the doctor will inform the parents of the diet to be followed.

It is advisable to consult a nutritionist for additional advice on the child's new eating regimen.

It is important to make a special emphasis on this aspect since the best treatment will be an adequate diet with gluten free ingredients.

Do not forget that children love desserts and cookies even though most of these products contain gluten.

Thinking about the health of children with intolerance to this protein, Gluten Not Included offers tasty cookies so they can complement their diet, tasting delicious snacks without negative consequences.
